GETTING STARTED
Note Compacting a database does not reduce its size.
When you compact a local database, Notes may need to make a temporary copy of it depending on necessary internal structural changes. To allow for that possibility, you should make sure that there is sufficient disk space to store the temporary database copy during that process. Compacting a database retains the read marks users see and the existing view indexes.
Note By default, compacting converts Release 5 databases to the Notes 6 file format. To retain Release 5 format, give the database the extension .NS5 before you compact. To retain Release 4 format, give the database the extension .NS4 before you compact.
1. Open a database.
2. Choose File - Database - Properties.
3. Click the Info tab.
4. Click % used.
5. If the percentage of a database in use drops below 90% (it contains more than 10% unused space), click Compact to compact the database.
If you have trouble compacting your mail database that is located on a server, ask your administrator to compact the database for you.
