Preserving text styles in messages sent over or received from the Internet
Notes works to preserve fidelity of text styles when you send or receive mail over the Internet, but if you discover that styles are lost, you can make sure certain settings are optimal for messages from both Notes mail and Internet mail users.

Notes attempts to deliver your outgoing messages in the format preferred by the recipient. But when Notes can't determine the recipient's preference, Notes sends messages in the format specified in your current Location document; by default, unless you have upgraded from a previous release of Notes, this is MIME.

Most Internet mail software understands MIME and will be able to display the text styles and pictures in your messages. In addition, make sure your Internet mail preference is "HTML and Plain Text."

For more information on this preference, see To send your Internet mail or news in plain text or HTML or both.

To preserve styled text and pictures in messages sent to you over the Internet, make sure your Person document in the Domino Directory has "Keep in sender's format" set as the "Format preference for incoming mail." This preference is the best choice when you receive mail from both Internet and Notes mail users.

Tip When "Keep in senders' format" is selected, you can see the HTML source for a message you receive from the Internet by opening the message and choosing View - Show - Page Source. This is useful if you want to see the complete "header" of a message to trace its origin. You may want to create a rule to filter messages from certain addresses.

For more information, see Filtering new mail using rules.
