The icon changes depending on the current status of your mail database -- for example, to let you know you have unread mail or to remind you about a calendar entry for which you set an alarm.

Note In this release of Notes, Notes Minder runs only on Windows.

To start Notes Minder

Choose Start, open your Lotus Applications folder, then choose Notes Minder. When prompted, enter your Notes password.

If you share a computer, start Notes with your User ID before you start Notes Minder so it checks your mail database. Otherwise, Notes Minder checks the mail and calendar of the last user who started Notes.

When Notes Minder is active, its icon in the taskbar changes to indicate different states. If you hover the cursor over the Notes Minder icon, a text box displays your current mail status or shows the time you last checked your mail.

Icon appearance	Meaning
	Notes Minder is active; there are no unread messages in your Inbox.
	There are unread messages in your Inbox. The icon blinks, toggling between these two icons.
	Notes Minder cannot connect to your home server.
	Notes Minder is running, but not enabled.

Notes Minder menu options

You can right-click the Notes Minder icon to open a menu of Notes Minder options, or double-click it to start Notes and open your mail database.

Menu item	Function
Open Notes	Starts Notes and opens your mail database.
Check Now	Checks for unread messages.
View Mail Summary	Displays the sender, date, and subject of unread messages. To read the full text of a message, double-click it.
Properties	Displays the Notes Minder Properties box, which you use to change configuration settings. You can set how you want to be alerted and how often Notes Minder checks for mail. For more information, see To set Notes to announce mail when Notes is not running.
Enabled	Toggles Notes Minder on and off without closing it.
Exit	Closes Notes Minder (Notes Minder icon disappears from Windows taskbar).
